Hopoff Round 2: Northern Lights or Indica?

Harpoon IPA (Massachusetts)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

I really love the Harpoon label. It's pretty much the same label for every beer they make, just with a different color scheme. There's a story around the neck, which describes it's copper color. Copper is one of those words that scares me when it comes to beer, as in beers named after metals (Iron, Steel). No one wants their beer tasting like metal, so I'm not sure why these companies have those word associations even if they're just talking about it's color.

HOW HAPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: Depends on where I was drinking it.
Zach: I'd do it. I'm a yankee, what d'ya want from me?

Sea Hag IPA (Connecticut)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

It's a can, which is definitely cool. There's also an actual sea hag on it, which is great.

HOW HOPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: Eh, we have 4 more. I'm not upset about that.
Zach: I'd be happy. I like this beer. It's good.

For over 20 years, I've been rapping "MCA's in the back cuz he's kissing with a whore" and apparently, it's "MCA's in the back cuz he's skeezin with a whore" and I'm sure we all agree that "skeezin" is better than "kissin."

Starr Hill Northern Lights (Virginia)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

It's got that hippie name with almost a star of witchcraft. I'm not sure why they have that star, but other than that, your average cover. The only bragging is it says "The Gift of Great Beer." Now, Angi is saying it's more like the Converse star. If you look deeper into the star, you see constellations ... wait, the circle is the moon, which has nothing to do with the northern lights at all, does it? Freakin' hippies.

HOW HAPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: Pretty happy.
Zach: Very happy. Great beer. Didn't let me down this second time around at all.

Bullshit of the Night:

Angi: Do you think we're biased towards these southeastern beers because we're from the southeast?
Zach Well, it's because we breath this southeastern air, which makes us more susceptible to it's intricacies.

Indica (California)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

Ganesh. You gotta love Ganesh. My favorite Indian God. He only has two arms on the bottle though. Vishnu beer should be coming soon from this company. Point being, I love how the Hindu's take great pride and joy in illustrating their Gods.

HOW HAPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: It was good at the bar the other night. I'd definitely have it again on tap somewhere.
Zach:
I feel like I'm drinking Jockamo which is quite disappointing, but I won't be "jocking" and "mo" of these beers.

Wow, look at my rankings. That's why there's multiple rounds in a tournament.

Jai Alai IPA (Right Down the Street Baby!)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

I did a report on Jai Alai when I was in senior in college and made up alot of bullshit about it. (More bullshit of the night). The label is one of the best. Best part of it all is that there's actually a description of the sport of Jai Alai on the side.

HOW HAPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: It's one of my favorite beers, but this is not a good representation.
Zach: True dat. This beer was amazing last time, and it's not as good this time around.

Per Angela ... this is a young brewery and batches are going to be different.

Lagunitas IPA (California)

JUDGING THE BOOK BY ITS COVER

Blandest cover of them all. A "homicidally" hoppy ale. They do have a good description, and the dog says it's "doggone" good.

HOW HAPPY WOULD I BE TO DRINK THIS AGAIN?

Angi: I will never not buy this when it's on tap again.
Zach: It's an amazing beer. Doesn't seem as good as the last round though.
